Context: Last week, Kassambara, our business associate, mobilized families one-on-one to discuss myAgro’s advance payment system for purchasing inputs and training. An overwhelming amount of farmers we visited were very positive about the layaway program and some even said they had been looking for years (!) for a way to save in advance of planting season. A few farmers were more hesitant and thought that while they understood the idea and the benefits, they didn’t think they had a way to raise money to make the advance payments for inputs. This is when Kassambara became more creative:
Young Male Farmer: This is a good idea, but I don’t have money right now to pay for inpupts.
Farmer’s friends: It’s true, we don’t have a way to pay!
Kassambara: Well, you know when you see a beautiful girl and you really want to marry her?
Farmer and friends: (laughing) Yes!
Kassambara: Well, somehow we always manage, no matter what the circumstances, to find enough money to propose and have a wedding.
Farmer and friends: (really laughing!) It’s true!
Kassambara: If you really want to do something, you will always find a way to do it.
Farmer and friends: Hmmm, true!
Kassambara: If you really want to increase your farm production, you have to really want to invest in your farm. You can start saving now, little by little, for next year’s planting.
Farmer and friends: We’re in!
