myAgro Receives Strategic Investment from MacKenzie Scott to Accelerate Farmer-Centered Digital Layaway Payment Tools Across West Africa
Funding will expand digital solutions and build long-term sustainability for smallholder farmers.
Senegal, December 11, 2025 — myAgro, a nonprofit organization pioneering a farmer-centered digital layaway platform for smallholder farmers, today announced that it has received a significant investment from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. This strategic funding will accelerate myAgro’s work to expand digital tools that enable farmers to make layaway payments for agricultural inputs and services they choose—directly from their phones and on their own terms.
The investment reflects renewed support from Ms. Scott, who first helped catalyze myAgro’s expansion in 2021. It arrives at a pivotal moment as myAgro transitions from its traditional field-based layaway model to a more scalable, cost-efficient digital approach designed to strengthen farmer agency, autonomy, and financial independence.
“Farmers have always been at the center of myAgro’s mission,” said Anushka Ratnayake, Founder & CEO of myAgro. “This support will help us to build digital layaway tools that meet farmers where they are—tools that empower them to make decisions, plan for their futures, and access high-quality agricultural services in a way that works for their lives. We are deeply grateful for this investment and what it makes possible.”
In addition to supporting innovation, myAgro intends to earmark a portion of this funding to assist in strengthening its operational reserves, ensuring the organization can continue delivering impact with stability and resilience during this important period of transformation. These reserves will reinforce financial health, protect core operations, and enable myAgro to manage risk responsibly as it scales digital services across West Africa.
Advancing Digital Tools for Farmer Autonomy
Over the next 24 months, myAgro will use the investment to support designing, testing, and scaling technology that improves farmers’ access to:
- Digital layaway accounts with flexible, pay-as-you-go contribution options
- Improved packages tailored to farmer needs and climate realities based on robust data analysis
- Training and advisory content delivered directly through mobile platforms
