Teneba Takes off for her Village

Teneba, one of our new Farmer Support Interns, arrives at the village where she will be supporting farmers this summer.

Teneba, one of our new Farmer Support Interns, arrives at the village where she will be living and supporting farmers this summer. Our interns each get a bicycle so they can travel from field to field to provide trainings.

Part of myAgro’s strategy for providing agricultural trainings for our farmers is to hire recent university graduates as interns to work with our expert agricultural agents and accompany farmers throughout the entire planting season. Our interns live in the villages with their farmers so that they can form close bonds with their communities and be available to offer support or provide trainings even in the evenings, when farmers have more free time.

This approach enables us to maintain an extremely high farmer to trainer ratio (100:1) while staying cost effective. It also supports local youth employment, which is a major problem in rural Mali and Senegal. In Mali, for example, young job seekers are estimated to represent 81.5% of all unemployed people, according to recent African Economic Outlook reports. All reasons why Teneba has a big smile on her face.
